NB Power Scope

NB Power’s scope of work for the Refurbishment Project can be defined as project management and refurbishment outage specific activities:

Project Management

NB Power’s project office provides the management and control of the general contractor, AECL, and site resources in the conduct of the Refurbishment Project.

Responsibilities include:

  • labour for NB Power’s representative team
  • hired services to support the team
  • insurance
  • administration
  • licensing
  • environmental impact assessment
  • labour stabilization understanding negotiations.

Outage Specific Activities

Main Generator and Auxiliaries Enhancement

NB Power is responsible for work on the Main Generator stator and rotor, which will be rewound or replaced. The dryer in the Hydrogen System will be replaced. The Automatic Voltage Regulators and Stabilizers in the Excitation Auxiliary System will be replaced with new digital units and the existing Excitation Rectifier Units will be replaced with new units.

Other

NB Power is responsible for the execution of certain elements to support AECL in the retube and refurbishment scope of work. These activities include provision of radiation protection assistants, planning and operations personnel, de-fueling, provision of services and utilities from the existing station, conduct of commissioning and provision of new fuel.

NB Power has also undertaken to construct a new site office building which reduces the need for short term, temporary facilities for the outage itself, as well as providing a long term benefit to the Point Lepreau Generating Station.

In addition to the project related activities, Point Lepreau Generating Station will conduct its normal outage work, including inpections, testing, repairs and replacements.
